Every year three individuals in the College of Health Professions are selected to receive Faculty Excellence Awards in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service at the Assistant Professor/Lecturer Level. This year two faculty members in the Department of Communication Disorders were chosen. Ms. Therese Kosary received the Excellence in Teaching Award and Dr. Valarie Fleming received the Excellence in Scholarship Award.

Ms. Therese Kosary (pictured left) has taught graduate and undergraduate level courses such as stuttering and articulation and phonological disorders. She also supervises clinicians in the Texas State Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic in their diagnosis and treatment of clients with a wide range of communication disorders.

Dr. Valarie Fleming (pictured right) teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses such as Aphasia, Cognitive Rehabilitation and Dysphagia. Dr. Fleming also runs the Cognitive-Communication Lab at the Texas State Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic where she conducts her research on the impact that cognitive deficits have on communication in adults.
