Externship Information

A key component of the graduate clinical training program is participation in off-campus practicum. Most students participate in this internship experience during the last two semesters of graduate study. Students are traditionally placed in facilities along the I-35 corridor including Austin and San Antonio, as well as rural communities in surrounding counties. A student may be considered for an out-of-state externship with faculty approval. Off-campus practicum experiences expose students to a range of communicative disorders in acute care hospitals, in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, public schools, private practice, and pediatric rehabilitation facilities, which serve populations across the lifespan, and that are culturally diverse.
