Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students

 2009 - 2010

 

The Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students is available to students majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science.


To Apply:

  1. Complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Include both your parents' and your income information even if you are considered an independent student.
  2. Include Texas States University school code on the FAFSA (003615).
  3. Submit a signed copy of your parents' and your 2008 Income Tax Return to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Texas State University by November 1, 2009.


Requirements

Applicant must:

  1. Be a citizen or national of the United States or a lawful permanent resident of the United State, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa or the Trust Territory of the Pacific.
  2. Be enrolled full-time in programs leading to a specific health degree.
  3. Show financial need.
  4. Be determined to have come from an economically disadvantaged background.The low-income level is used to determine what constitutes a low-income family. For the purposes of this program, low-income is based on 200 percent of the current Department of Health and Human Services poverty guidelines which can be found in the chart below.
 
  • To determine if a student comes from an economically disadvantaged background, the parent's income must be used regardless of independent/dependent, age or martial status.
  • The number of persons in the family or household will be determined by the number of exemptions claimed on the parents 2008 Federal Income Tax Return.
