Pearson, BSHP '93, named to 2008 Rural Health Fellows Program
The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) announced the final selections for the 2008 Rural Health Fellows Program in December. After the completion of a competitive review process, twelve fellows were selected to participate in this year-long, intensive program aimed at developing leaders who can articulate a clear and compelling vision for rural America.
"We are very pleased to announce this new class of fellows as this program enters its second year. Once again, this class represents various levels of rural healthcare expertise. With the successes achieved by the 2007 class, we look forward to continuing the tradition of building rural healthcare leaders through this valuable program," said Alan Morgan, NRHA CEO.
The NRHA is a national nonprofit organization, with more than 18,000 members that provides leadership on rural health issues. The Association's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of rural Americans and to provide leadership on rural health issues through advocacy, communications, education, and research. The NRHA membership is made up of a diverse collection of individuals and organizations, all of whom share the common bond of an interest in rural health.

Rathbun, BHA '07, promoted to Patient Access Supervisor
Megan Rathbun was empolyed by Seton Medical Center shortly after completing her Bachelor of Healthcare Administration at Texas State University. Now, after five months of employment, she has been promoted to Patient Access Supervisor for Day Surgery, Labor and Delivery and Birth Certificates.

Cook, MSHP '97, named a 'Rising Star' by San Antonio Business Journal
The San Antonio Business Journal picked Jeff Cook, MSHP '97, as one of the "40 Under 40: San Antonio's Rising Stars." Mr. Cook currently serves as the regional CEO of United Healthcare. The honorees will be recognized at the 13th Annual 40 Under 40 Rising Stars Awards Luncheon on January 24th at the Oak Hills Country Club.
Lieneck, MHA '06, accepted as new administrator of Spine Diagnostic & Treatment Center
Cristian Lieneck, MHA '06, FAMH, CHE, CMPE, has accepted a new position as administrator of the Spine Diagnostic & Treatment Center in Austin, Texas. Cristian was previously the Manager of the business office for the Austin Radiological Association.
Helmke chosen as new Division Administrator at M.D. Anderson
Joel W. Helmke, MSHP '96, has accepted the Division Administrator, Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences position at M.D. Anderson effective January 1, 2008.
Mr. Helmke was most recently employed as the Department Administrator for Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology. Prior to this, Joel has worked as ad-interim Program Director, and Clinical Business Manager at M. D. Anderson; at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and The Methodist Hospital.
Barnes selected as new CEO of Sweeny Community Hospital
William H. Barnes, MSHP '88, has been selected as the new CEO of Sweeny Community Hospital in Sweeny, Texas. Mr. Barnes was previously CEO of Crane Memorial Hospital in Crane, Texas for two and a half years.

A progressive rural health care delivery system, Bayside proudly serves as the hub of general acute, primary and public health care programs and services in and for Chambers County, Texas. Bayside was presented the TMF Governor’s Health Quality Improvement Award of Excellence in 2005, as well as the Texas Academy of Governance Excellence in Health System’s Governance award in 2006. David Pearson, BSHP '93, FACHE The Board of Directors for the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals is proud to announce that David Pearson, CHE, MPA, was selected to be the next President/CEO of TORCH. The Board of Directors is the official governing body for TORCH and consists of 21 hospital administrators from across the State of Texas. David Pearson was previously the Vice President of Advocacy and Communications and has been with the organization for the past five years. James Bucker, the current TORCH Board Chairman, said, “Our future depends on strong leadership and enhancing our efforts to work collaboratively with other healthcare-related associations and providers. David will do just that.” Pearson assumed his new responsibilities on December 4th and he stated, “I am proud to follow in the footsteps of our esteemed founder, John Boff.
