He has held various management positions in the healthcare field since 1975. Prior to joining the faculty in 1988, Dr. Summers was director of healthcare delivery for the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Summers' teaching and research interest include strategic planning, marketing, and ethics. He received the SWT School of Health Professions Teacher of the Year in 1992. Dr. Summers is a diplomat in the American College of Healthcare Executives and received the Edgar C. Hayhow award for article of the year from that organization in 1983 and 1985.
