Prior to joining the faculty in 2008, Dr. Fields was Executive Director of the Center for South Texas Programs, which was responsible for administrative and financial oversight of remote programs for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Fields’ teaching and research interests include maternal and child health access issues, Texas/Mexico Border issues, and public health issues. Dr. Fields has held academic positions at Texas Tech University and (then) Southwest Texas State University; she has held visiting academic positions at the University of Texas (Austin) and University of Texas Brownsville; she also has held an academic research appointment at the University of Texas Health Science Center (Department of Family and Community Medicine). In 1999, Dr. Fields received the Health Professions’ Excellence in Teaching Award from (then) Southwest Texas State University. Dr. Fields is a fellow of the Texas Public Health Association and is a lifetime member of the Texas School Health Association where she has received the Martha Licata Service Award. Dr. Fields has been active in numerous health education societies and has served as president of the Texas Society of Public Health Education (TSOPHE) and Texas School Health Association (TSHA). Dr. Fields served on the editorial board for the Journal of AHEC and was the guest editor in 2007.
