The School of Health Administration has multiple funded research programs that are run by or associated with our faculty. This page will briefly describe these projects as well as their respective objectives. Click on the links for further information.
Safe at Home -This volunteer program strives to create a new and separate program of intergenerational service learning. The Safe at Home program will create a delivery system that reduces the risk of injury and death from falls in the homes of the elderly. Outcome research and a curriculum will be developed for the program to be replicated in other communities. Safe at Home is implemented by a community-wide coalition and a steering committee. A limited number of students will be selected to enroll in the Safe at Home Program due to scheduling factors.
Safe @ Home Project Pictures Strong for Life - This program is a joint venture between the School of Health Administration and the Department of Physical Therapy. Shannon Williams, the Physical Therapy Clinic Director, directs the students participating in the program in visiting assisted living and retirement communities and helping the elderly residents maintain healthy physical activities.
Mutual Adoption Pact (MAP) - This is a multicultural, intergenerational service organization that was established in 1997 with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Texas Long Term Care Institute. Based upon interests, needs and time availability, college students are matched with elderly members of the community. With youth and seniors forming bonds and improving lives, both generations contribute.
