Internship Info

Robert Mooney, Coordinator of Undergraduate Field Placements, is available to answer all your internship/residency questions.

You are eligible to apply and attend the internship placement meeting for HA 4440 or 4441 if:

  1. You have completed, or will have completed by end of current and/or summer semester, all general education, other required courses, and junior year HA courses.
  2. You have a minimum grade of “C” in all major (HA) courses.
  3. You have a minimum major (HA) GPA of 2.25.

If you are not eligible for internship at time of the application, go ahead and submit the application and you will be placed on the pending list.  Your application will be rechecked at the end of the semester.  If you are eligible at that time, you will be emailed information on meeting date, time and items to be submitted at the meeting.

STUDENTS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR INTERNSHIP/RESIDENCY CANNOT ATTEND THE PLACEMENT MEETING

You are eligible to apply and attend the residency (HA 4848) placement meeting if:

  2. You have a minimum grade of “C” in all major (HA) courses.
  3. You have a minimum major (HA) GPA of 2.25.

NOTE: A student who is not eligible to attend the placement meeting will not be allowed to participate in residency (HA 4848).  You may apply for internship, see criteria for internship.

If you do not successfully complete the current semester, you will not be allowed to participate in residency.  If eligible, you may be considered for internship.

Submit the internship application to Julie by the following deadline:

 Fall Internship  February 15
 Spring Internship  September 15

Submit a health form to Julie by the following deadline:
Fall Internship  Monday after Spring Break
 Spring Internship  Monday after Thanksgiving

NOTE: Students cannot advance register/register for internship or residency until a signed health form is on file.

All General education, other required courses, and junior year (HA) courses must be completed prior to enrolling in HA 4440 or 4441 (Internship). The internship courses should be taken your final two semesters at Texas State. In addition, you must have a minimum grade of "C" in all major (HA) courses and a major (HA) GPA of 2.25. You are eligible to apply for internship during the last semester of your junior year.

Students do have the option of enrolling in a residency (HA 4848) provided that all coursework will be completed prior to the residency semester. The residency will require approximately 40 hours per week. The above minimum grade and GPA requirement must be met prior to enrolling in residency (HA 4848).

All internship and residencies require you to fill out an application and health report, found here. Have both forms completed and returned by the dates shown above.  Only submit a copy of your health form and keep the original for your records.  Occasionally you will be asked for a copy of your health report by your facility, so it is important that you keep the original.  You will also have to purchase limited liability insurance through the College of Health Professions. Please contact Julie Carroll for rates and due dates.
