DPT I Students at Lakeway Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center
The DPT I's visited Lakeway Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center on October 27, 2009 to learn more about the principles of aquatic physical therapy first-hand. Special thanks to Bob Barker and Melody Medley-Keith for their generosity in sharing their facilities, their staff, and their expertise with our students. It was a fun and informative (and exhausting) evening! Melody made everyone work hard in the pool, but everyone had a great time.

Students Visit The Springs Brain Injury Program
Thanks to the staff and patients of The Springs Brain Injury Program in Ottine for having our students out for a visit. The DPT II students took a historical tour of the old Warm Springs Hospital, then spent the rest of the morning exercising with the residents. As evidenced by the pictures, a great time was had by all. (submitted by Steve Spivey)
Learning Wound Therapy
Kate Young, Glenda Adams, and Deborah Smith from KCI recently spent a morning on campus introducing the second year students to negative pressure wound therapy. The half-day session included lecture as well as an extensive hands-on laboratory component where the students were able to apply the VAC negative pressure wound therapy system to each other, on wound models, and also to watermelons. It was a great learning experience. Thanks KCI!!!!
Legislative Day in Austin 2011
On February 25th, a group of Austin area physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, physical therapy students and physical therapist students joined with others from the state to visit their respective legislators. Over 500 representatives of the Texas Physical Therapy Association were in Austin to discuss patient access legislation with their legislators. These professionals were joined by other health care providers and consumers to discuss the importance of patient choice and direct access to physical therapy. Legislation has been introduced and is waiting for a committee hearing.
Several of our DPT students participated in this year's Bobcat Build. Students were assigned to work with a family from Martindale by painting their home, yard clean-up, and cutting limbs from trees. The family was very thankful for all their efforts. Thank you students on a job well done!!!
