Respiratory Care Practitioners are essential members of the health care team. The field of respiratory care includes exciting and challenging career opportunities in the fields of acute care, critical care, home care, extended care, pulmonary rehabilitation, diagnostic testing, polysomnography (sleep studies), research or education. Respiratory therapists have a well-defined scope of practice and are considered specialists in the area of life support equipment and its applications. The Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Respiratory Care offers an intellectually stimulating and demanding educational experience.

The College of Health Professions offers the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care (BSRC). Once all RC Pre-requesites are completed, the BSRC degree is designed for completion in 18 months. Admission of a new class begins each Fall semester with a selective and competitive class size of 40 students.

The Texas State University Respiratory Care Program offering the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care degree and the Polysomnography Option Program at the San Marcos, Texas campus is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com).

An accredited graduate program in polysomnography (sleep diagnostics) is also offered through the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. Upon completion of the 15-hour PSG graduate certificate program, individuals are eligible to immediate sit for national sleep board exams offered by the NBRC and/or the Board for Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
