Project PRWL Literacy Camp:

Picture it, Read it, Write it, Live it

The Texas State Bobcats are on the "prowl" to improve reading and writing.

The Texas State Speech-Language Hearing Clinic is offering a 10-day intensive reading and writing camp for struggling students. Participants should have a documented difficulty with reading and writing. Project PRWL sets out to build students' confidence and tap into students' strengths to improve reading and writing.

This program was designed using evidence-based approaches to address reading comprehension, reading fluency, and spelling. Comprehension activities focus on creating mental pictures while reading. Reading fluency and spelling activities utilize an Orton-Gillingham approach involving multi-sensory, hands-on learning opportunities to address decoding and phonological skills.

Project PRWL Overview

Project PRWL was designed as a true summer camp with all of the fun that comes with one, but has added aspect of skilled literacy intervention. For 2 1/2 hours a day, students will participate in both group activities focusing on building reading confidence and individual treatment sessions with one-on-one activities designed specifically to the child's needs. Treatment is led by graduate students in the Department of Communication Disorders and supervised by ASHA certified speech-language pathologists.
